The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar was established in 1961 by Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is one of the oldest BISE boards of Pakistan. BISE board Peshawar has conducted examinations of intermediate and secondary classes of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa province solely for many years until the government of KPK established separate BISE boards for several districts of the province. BISE Board Peshawar is currently responsible for conduction of examination of Peshawar district.
Charsadda District, Chitral District, Shabqadar, Mohmand, Khyber and Peshawar District are jurisdiction of Peshawar BISE board. It is parent BISE board of KPK province. The board has legislative authority to organize, develop, reform, renew, re-arrange and plan academic and administrative policies of all private and public institutes that come under its jurisdiction.

The Peshawar board has been conducting examinations successfully in large scale. Although the board receives minimum fee from the candidates, but the performance of board has been commendable. All results and examination conducted by BISE Peshawar board are unbiased and fair. The board has designed its policies in accordance to modern and international standards.
The board has authority to accord and cancel the certificate of its affiliated institutes if the criteria of qualification is not met, the implementation of syllabus, awarding the deserving candidates and teachers, conducting investigation of schools, oversee the availability of required facilities in affiliated institutes, enrollment and registration of students of jurisdiction areas and monitoring the education quality of Intermediate and Secondary classes in the area.
The newly elected government of Pakistan has increased the educational budget of KPK including Peshawar. The boards of education are autonomous body and they are under authoritative power of Governor of the province. These independent boards work as governmental tools to ensure uniform education system in the country. Through establishment of these boards elimination of gender disparity from rural areas has been made possible in large scale. The boards design the educational policies of the areas under their jurisdiction in a way that it can encourage enrollment of more students.
Peshawar district is terrorism stricken area, apart from quality education the government also has the responsibility to eliminate extremism and illiteracy from the area through education. So far, the KPK government has done many successful attempts. The overall literacy rate of girls’ students and boys’ students has increased.
The gap between education quality of private schools and public schools is one of the major challenges for the BISE Board Peshawar. The board has to play an important role for assurance of education uniformity. The administration of board has huge responsibility of oversee the content of syllabus being taught in schools which should be taught as per directives of Ministry of education. In rural areas, the syllabus has been radicalized for prevalence of extremism and violence.
