The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar was established in 1961 by Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is one of the oldest BISE boards of Pakistan. BISE board Peshawar has conducted examinations of intermediate and secondary classes of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa province solely for many years until the government of KPK established separate BISE boards for several districts of the province. BISE Board Peshawar is currently responsible for conduction of examination of Peshawar district.

Charsadda District, Chitral District, Shabqadar, Mohmand, Khyber and Peshawar District are jurisdiction of Peshawar BISE board. It is parent BISE board of KPK province. The board has legislative authority to organize, develop, reform, renew, re-arrange and plan academic and administrative policies of all private and public institutes that come under its jurisdiction.

The newly elected government of Pakistan has increased the educational budget of KPK including Peshawar. The boards of education are autonomous body and they are under authoritative power of Governor of the province. These independent boards work as governmental tools to ensure uniform education system in the country. Through establishment of these boards elimination of gender disparity from rural areas has been made possible in large scale. The boards design the educational policies of the areas under their jurisdiction in a way that it can encourage enrollment of more students.
